MOVING FORWARD
On Tuesday night, the 200 Local 6 members who attended the membership meeting committed to making our voices heard loud and clear at the Senate. It is time for the State to honor its contract and pay the court workers the earned wages.
Now, with the arbitrator ruling that the contract is binding, there is no excuse not to fund everyone his and her promised salary.
Senator Michael Morrissey heard about the membership meeting and asked to attend. He pledged his support to fund the pay increases. He gave important advice: Everyone needs to call his or her senator. Telephone calls—not e-mails—make the impact.
Unfortunately, there is a short window to get this done. Here is the schedule of events that you need to know:
· May 19—the Senate budget comes out.
· May 21—all amendments must be in. (Look for a newsflash with amendment numbers and your call sheet.)
· May 25—the Senate begins debate.
We need to hit the ground running. Once the amendment numbers are announced, we need to flood the Senate with telephone calls from every Local 6 member—and family and friends too. If you are a voter in Senate President Therese Murray’s district, your call is critical.
We are the talk of the town at the State House. And we’re just getting started.
