OPEIU Local 6
News Flash
April 29, 2010
In a disappointing turn of events, we have learned that the House of Representatives did not adopt our budget language. Due to budget constraints, only $3 million have been added to the budget thus far. But we are not done yet—this is far from over; it is the beginning of the battle.
Our cause is just. A contract is a contract. It is a legal—and it is a moral—promise. Because of you, 120 members of the House of Representatives support our cause. They agree that it’s outrageous that OPEIU Local 6 members have to tolerate a broken contract. These lawmakers are telling us to keep fighting.
Our cause is unique. While other unions are asking for new money, we are fighting to get what is already owed to us. The lawmakers understand this. That is why 120 are joining with us in this fight.
Although our amendments were rejected, there are more opportunities to achieve our goal. This is not the time to be discouraged. Your hundreds and hundreds of calls and e-mails have awakened the Legislature. They know about our fight to have our contract honored. Never has our cause resonated so loudly. We must increase our visibility even more. We must now really turn up the volume.
Starting today we gear up to tackle the Senate. Of course, we still need every House member’s support. When you see them, thank them for trying. Tell them we will be back. We will need their help in getting our money.
Be proud of your efforts. OPEIU now has a powerful voice—and a loud one. The Trial Court workers will not be denied what is right, what was promised, and what is owed.
