OPEIU Local 6 News Flash November 13, 2009
The vote on whether or not to participate in the furlough program was counted last night. Unfortunately, members of the Probation Department voted to reject the furlough program by a very narrow margin. The decision to participate was defeated by a vote of 266 to 259. This vote results in the layoff of the 65 members who received layoff notices. The last day of employment for these employees will be today. We would like to thank everyone who voted to try and save these jobs. Efforts to secure funding for the probation department are ongoing. We will provide information as it becomes available.
