The CJAM and the Commissioner of Probation met with the Union yesterday afternoon to discuss OCP’s budget shortfall.
They informed the Union that OCP is short $4.1 million and is therefore facing layoffs effective November 1, 2009. Notices are going out on Friday, October 16, 2009.
The Commissioner has proposed a furlough program of eight days for his employees to prevent layoffs. Probation Department employees will be able to vote on whether they, as a group, will participate.
A deficiency budget, which addresses the shortfall, is now being debated by the Legislature. All Local 6 members should call the following Legislators:
Senate Ways & Means
Sen. Steven Panagiotakos Chairman 617-722-1630
Sen. Stephen Brewer Vice Chair 617-722-1540
Sen. Harriette Chandler 617-722-1544
House Ways & Means
Rep. Charles Murphy Chairman 617-722-2990
Rep. Barbara L’Italien Vice Chair 617-722-2380
Rep. Stephen Kulik 617-722-2380
And ask them to support this legislation.
Please post and circulate.
