Legislators‘ Pay Raise: As you may already have heard the State Legislature will receive a pay increase of 5.5 percent. This pay increase is a result of legislation that was passed in 1998 which ties their pay to the state’s median household income, so every two years it rises or falls.
The Legislature voted late in last year’s legislative session to fund the first year of your contract. (That is why you received a retroactive payment in August.) However, the Governor signed that bill into law after the legislative session ended. As a result, the legislature recessed before they fully funded the appropriate funding for the remainder of your contract.
We believe this pay raise the legislatures received can only help our battle to get our contract funded. When you call your legislators, tell them that they already voted in favor of your contract in the last legislative session but that they recessed before they could vote to fund the remaining years of your contract.
We will, of course, continue to fight to get your contract funded and we need you to work with us by calling your legislators. When the Governor signed the first year of the contract it provided us with a guarantee. Now it’s time to work together to make sure the legislature acts on the guarantee of funding for the next two years.
OPEIU Local 6, the Trial Court and the State Legislature got the first year funded. We continue to work on your behalf and with your calls and support; we will be successful in securing funding for the next two years.
Seniority List: We have posted the Trial Court’s seniority list on our website. You can access this list by visiting our website: www.opeiulocal6.org and clicking on “Useful Links.” Under that heading you will find one that says “Trial Court of Massachusetts Documents.” Seniority lists for both the clerical and the professional bargaining units can be found there. The lists are sorted by overall Trial Court seniority, not by individual location.
Please post and circulate.
